My good friend Karim is a cyclist and a sailor of the seven seas. When we had lunch one day we agreed we should make a few images with Stockholm as our backdrop. He suggested Skeppsholmen, a small island in Stockholm city which faces Djurgården and Gröna Lund where they recently had a cycling competition. The perfect backdrop.

I gathered the following gear and stuffed it in the back of my car and off I went one early saturday morning:

Say hello to my feet ;)

Primary things used for this day:

  • Camera: Nikon D750
  • Lens: Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8
  • Strobe: Phottix Indra500 monolight
  • Light modifier: Broncolor Para 88 parabolic umbrella

A quick test shot revealed how it looked like without the strobe firing:

When all was set up, it looked like this:

Behind the scenes, Karim is starting his run just behind the light stand over at the boat :)

And here's the final result. Camera settings were mostly around f/11 - f/13 and 1/200s. I did not go  into high speed sync for any of these shots since I wanted a larger depth of field to show Gröna Lund in the background. Unfortunately we did not have time to go to another location for a more interesting backdrop to do slower shutter speeds to capture some motion blur, that have to wait until next time :)
